Protect your fleet from the consequences of diesel spills and theft
Fuel’s not safe until it’s TankSafe®
Diesel Spills
Diesel spills from your fleet’s fuel tanks are a hazard not just to your business but to wider society.
Whether it’s a driver overfilling, a faulty or poorly fitted cap, or an ineffective antiphon, spills can have grave consequences:
• Accident cause - harming other road users and the public
• Potential lawsuits
• Environmental damage and fines
One small diesel spill poses a huge danger to other road users, particularly cyclists and motorcyclists who are at high risk of sustaining serious injury.
Diesel Theft
There are 2 ways that fuel theft occurs:
3rd Party Theft is when large amounts of fuel are siphoned. Often it’s conducted by organised gangs. It can occur anywhere a truck is parked: at lay-bys, truck stops, depots.
All that is required is a siphoning tube and a container to put the stolen fuel in. Organised gangs may have generators and large drums to enable them to siphon even more fuel quicker.
However, this type of fuel theft only accounts for 1% of all fuel theft.
Skimming Theft is invisible to you, yet it accounts for 99% of all fuel theft that occurs.
It’s when small amounts of fuel are stolen on a regular basis from the top of the tank.
It can simply be done with a siphoning tube and a container, and is commonly conducted by drivers who see it as a perk of the job.

Anti-siphons and Telematics don't protect you...
Anti-Siphons may help restrict large scale 3rd party theft, however, they cannot prevent ‘skimming’.
This is because all anti-siphons have an inherent weakness, whereby their chambers sit in the fuel tank, meaning fuel can be ‘skimmed’ to their base. This can leave up to 50 litres of fuel exposed to ‘skimming’
on a brimmed tank.
Telematics and fuel monitoring devices may alert you to when large scale 3rd party theft has occurred, however, by the time you are alerted, the thieves and your fuel will be long gone. But remember, 3rd party theft is only 1% of the issue.
Telematics and fuel monitoring systems won’t stop ‘skimming’ because all systems have built-in tolerances to allow for natural variances. Therefore, ‘skimmers’ will simply siphon quantities of fuel which will not trigger the system, meaning the ‘skimming’ can occur undetected.

Make Roads
Safer
One small diesel spill poses a huge danger to other road users, particularly cyclists and motorcyclists who are at high risk of sustaining serious injury.
Spills are frequently found at roundabouts, where traffic flows quickly - this often means that the driver who caused the spill has long since gone. But the danger remains.
Workplace Health & Safety
Safety is a top priority for fleet managers, yet diesel spills in the forecourt, in the cab, and in the workplace are putting your employees in danger every day.
Slips and trips at work represent 33% of all reported major injuries, costing employers over £500 million a year and costing society £800 million.
Protect the Environment
The process of cleaning diesel spills often leads to diesel being washed into drainage systems. This can result in diesel entering the watercourse and harming local ecosystems.
Every litre of spilled diesel is an extra litre needed to power your truck. Meaning your diesel spend is higher; increasing your fleet’s carbon footprint.
Prevent all
Fuel Loss
Spilling, skimming, siphoning and overfilling reduces fuel efficiency and could be costing your business every single trip.
TankSafe® 'Optimum' is the only fuel security solution to eliminate siphoning, skimming, spills and over-filling.
Proven by UK Hauliers to save up to 15% on a fleet’s fuel costs
Serious Cost Savings...
Skimming loss: Fleets we work with tell us that, prior to fitting TankSafe® ‘Optimum’, they were losing, on average, 25 litres of fuel, per truck, per week.
Spillage loss: On average, 10 litres of fuel is lost to spillage during filling, per truck, per week.
How it Works...
TankSafe® ‘Optimum’ has a unique patented design incorporating a locking float valve at the bottom of the device that rises with the pressure of the fuel in the tank during filling.
When the tank is approximately 98% capacity, the valve locks off, preventing the tank being over-filled or “brimmed”. This isolates the fuel in the tank, therefore preventing any skimming, siphoning or spillage.
Makes Roads and Workplaces Safer
Diesel spills pose a serious danger to other road users and to employees in the workplace. TankSafe® ‘Optimum’s' unique float-valve ensures dual protection against fuel leakage, working in conjunction with the robust anti-spill mechanism, to prevent spills and make roads and workplaces safer.
