Life in the fast lane

Charles Boucher is TankSafe’s workshop manager. He’s also an accomplished boxer, athlete and coach. We asked him about his job, life on the ropes, and inspiring the next generation of athletes.

 

What’s your biggest sporting achievement to date?

Personally holding the SA Boys u/13 100m Backstroke record for 2 yrs. But I rate the golds my athletes won at Nationals in a higher regard.


What’s the best thing about coaching kids in athletics?

The happiness when they can see the progress in themselves.

What gets you out of bed in the morning?
Being alive and well.


What does a typical workday look like for you
Busy meeting demands, but as a whole, hitting our set goals
with minimum disruptions or mistakes.

What do you enjoy most about your job?
Satisfaction when you meet the customer’s demands.


What’s on your wishlist for the next 5 years at TankSafe®?
To maintain a well-drilled and functional work environment.


What do you think makes a good boxer?
A good chin, good eyes and reflexes, and a hunger to learn.

What do you think makes a good athlete?
Mental state firstly - they want to achieve and put in the effort to achieve set goals. Then, talent. Without hard work, you won’t win races.

 

What’s your favourite film and why?

The Godfather - Marlon Brando was the real deal.

If you could pick any three famous people in the world, alive or deceased, to have a few drinks with, who would they be?

Al Capone, Bugsy Malone and Rocky Marciano.
