Truckin’ Snapshot: The beginnings of DAF Trucks

On 1st April, 1928, Hubert van Doorne set up a small workshop in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, in the grounds of a brewery.

A.H. Huenges was the managing director of the brewery, and Van Doorne had repaired Huenges’s car many times. Huenge was so impressed with Van Doorne’s work he offered to finance him in business, becoming Van Doorne’s co-founder.

In 1932, Van Dorrne ran the company with his brother, William Van Doorne. They changed the name to “Doorne’s Aanhangwagen Fabriek” (“Van Doorne’s Trailer Factory”) - abbreviated to DAF.

In 1936, Huenges left the company and DAF was operated solely by the Van Doorne brothers.
