Truckin’ Snapshot: The beginnings of Mercedes Benz trucks

In 1896, Gottlieb Daimler found a new application for his engine.
The first truck was a carriage with its drawbar replaced with
a rear-mounted, two-cylinder engine.
It delivered 4 HP and could carry a load of 1.5 tonnes.

In contrast to the car, Daimler’s truck was initially treated with
sceptism. It didn’t attract a single buyer in Germany but
found success in England when it was purchased by
British Motor Syndicate Ltd in London.

In 1926, Karl Benz and Gottlieb Daimler merged their automobile companies to form Daimler-Benz AG.

Their combined ingenuity and skill resulted in Daimler-Benz AG producing a complete range of commercial vehicles which were displayed at
the Deutsche-Automobil-Austellung motor show in Berlin.

In 2021, Mercedes-Benz celebrated its 125th anniversary of business.
